Please Note: No CE or certificate is available in this free version of the course. If you are seeking CE or a certificate of completion, you will need to enroll in the paid CE version.

This on demand webinar explores key aspects of diagnosing and managing eating disorders in adolescents and young adults, a population whose care presents unique challenges for health care providers. The presentation covers diagnostic criteria for various types of eating disorders, including differential diagnoses. Special attention is given to how personal identities and biases can impact clinical assessments. The presentation also addresses the psychiatric and physical manifestations of malnutrition, exploring how these can vary and complicate diagnosis and treatment.

This training was originally held on February 25, 2025.

The contents of this webinar are solely the responsibility of the presenters and do not necessarily represent the official views of AHI or any AHI Section.

Audience

Medical professionals such as pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and mental health specialists who work with adolescents and young adults. Additionally, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare providers involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eating disorders in this age group would benefit from this training.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and analyze the role of personal and systemic biases in the screening and diagnosis of eating disorders, considering how identities (e.g., gender, race, and socioeconomic status) impact assessment and treatment.
  • Differentiate between the various types of eating disorders using diagnostic criteria and apply case-based scenarios to enhance clinical decision-making.
  • Recognize the psychiatric and physical manifestations of malnutrition in individuals with eating disorders and apply this knowledge to improve treatment planning and outcomes.
